Baripada: A violent confrontation in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district resulted in one fatality and four serious injuries on Tuesday, according to local law enforcement.
The altercation occurred in the Kalikapur region during the afternoon, stemming from an ongoing feud, as reported by Karunakar Rout, the inspector-in-charge of Baripada Town police station.
The victim has been identified as Raju Ghadei, aged 38. His mother, Sabitri, along with three others, suffered injuries.
Sabitri and two of the critically injured individuals were transported to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack, while another injured woman was taken to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada.
Authorities have initiated a case regarding the incident, but no arrests have been made at this time, Rout confirmed.
This clash occurred shortly after leaders from the BJD party presented a memorandum to Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police Varun Guntupalli, raising concerns about rising lawlessness in the area.
They called for the swift apprehension of suspects involved in a shooting incident that transpired near Asanjoada on National Highway-18 the previous day.
Sudam Marndi, the BJD's district president and a former state minister, claimed that armed assailants fired at a businessman named Sibananda Barik.
Barik was reportedly shot multiple times in broad daylight by a group of five to six attackers, but he survived and is currently receiving medical care, as stated in the BJD's memorandum.
